Balloon Glow
Every year, the night before the Great Forest Park Balloon Race, most of the balloons participate in the balloon glow. In the evening, just as it starts to get dark, the balloons start to inflate.
Some people sit around outside where the baloons are set up. They bring picnic goods and watch from afar. I perfer to walk around among the balloons. They're beautiful. Plus, you can walk up to the baskets and talk to the operators. And I might have a little thing for the fire....
You can see how many people were there that nigiht. It was pretty crowded, but not so bad that you felt penned in or anything. So many balloons in the above photo are lit because every so often, the organizers blow a horn and most of the balloons use their burners at the same time so they all glow at once.
There's a photo contest associated with the glow and the race the next day and the photo above is the one that I submitted. I sent in an entry last year, but didn't win anything, and I'm sure it'll be the same this year, but I can always try! :)
