hitting the water

On our first full day in Jackson Hole, we went whitewater rafting on the Snake River with the Barker-Ewing rafting company. These photos were taken by Float-O-Graphs from the side of the river while we went through the rapids nicknamed "the lunch counter." We made it through the rapids and no one fell out of the boat!

Staying near the mountains day and night was awesome simply because you could watch them change as the light and weather changed.

our cabin

our cabin, originally uploaded by cathurynn.

This is where we stayed while in Wyoming. It is the large cabin of the Anne Kent Cabins. (You can google Anne Kent Cabins and find it if you're interested. I'm too lazy to make a link.) It slept all six of us very comfortably and had a nice large table and a well stocked kitchen. We've stayed at places that didn't have enough silverware or dishes for six people, but this place was well prepared. Plus, do you see the reflection in the windows? That gives you the idea of what we could see from inside the cabin. It was a pretty great place to stay.

on the way to the airport

on the way to the airport, originally uploaded by cathurynn.

These are the Tetons! Aren't they awesome? This is the site from Jackson Hole, the valley to the east side of the Tetons. The mountains rise up pretty dramatically from this side, without any foothills to speak of. We took this on our first drive into the valley, on our way to pick up my brother at the Jackson Hole airport. This is only part of the Teton range, although the whole range isn't very long, compared to other more well known mountain ranges. The tallest peak in the photo is Grand Teton, the tallest in the range and the second tallest in Wyoming (by about 30 feet, if I remember correctly). We could see these mountains from our cabin, which will show up in a future post.

gorgeous

gorgeous, originally uploaded by cathurynn.

I'm back! I realize I haven't posted anything here since July, but I also think that since maybe two people look at this, no one really cares. I've been busy working on the photos from the family vacation to the Tetons and Yellowstone and originally I had grand plans to do a full vacation blog by day or topic like I did with my trip to Louisiana. Then I encountered the full volume of photos I would have to work with and promptly scrapped that plan. I'm going to hit on a couple of highlights here but if you want the full scoop on the vacation, just head over to my Flickr account (linked right under the photo in this entry) and check out the set I made for the vacation.

This photo was taken in Nebraska from underneath a storm cloud we came upon while driving down the highway. We saw some awesome clouds and storms while we were gone, and I do love crazy weather.
